Davenport, IA – Parts of Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri are bracing for dangerously cold temperatures with wind chills expected to drop as low as 35 below zero through Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Cold Weather Advisory will take effect from midnight Sunday until 11 a.m. Monday for areas including Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Dubuque, and Moline. An Extreme Cold Watch will then be in place from late Monday night through Tuesday morning across regions such as Iowa City, Rock Island, Burlington, and Macomb.
Wind chills as low as 25 below zero on Monday and 35 below zero on Tuesday could cause frostbite in under 20 minutes. Officials urge residents to dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Pets should be kept indoors, and outdoor animals provided with proper shelter and unfrozen water.
Residents are advised to monitor weather updates, use portable heaters safely, and avoid using generators indoors. This extreme cold follows a season of fluctuating temperatures across the Midwest, placing additional strain on regional infrastructure and emergency services.
