Davenport, IA – A Davenport man was taken into custody Tuesday evening after allegedly threatening to detonate a bomb at the Scott County Courthouse.
According to a release from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 8:36 p.m. when the Scott Emergency Communication Center received a report of a possible bomb threat near the courthouse entrance. The Davenport Police Department, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, and Rock Island County Bomb Squad responded to the scene.
Authorities said the suspect, identified as Noah D. Ackerlund, 36, was found inside the courthouse vestibule where he allegedly stated he intended to “blow the building to pieces” and referenced a metal box in his possession as a bomb. Law enforcement officers were able to safely convince Ackerlund to exit the building, taking him into custody without further incident.
The Rock Island County Bomb Squad examined the metal box and determined it did not pose a threat. Ackerlund was transported to the Scott County Jail and charged with Threats of Terrorism.
No injuries were reported, and officials confirmed that no staff members or inmates at the adjacent jail facility were ever in danger.
