Indianapolis, Indiana – Patchy dense fog is blanketing central Indiana early Thursday, creating hazardous driving conditions and slowing morning commutes across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less in some areas through 9 a.m., especially along major corridors like I-70, I-65, and U.S. 31. Drivers are urged to use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and maintain extra distance from other vehicles.

The fog is especially thick in low-lying areas and near rivers, affecting Marion, Hamilton, Johnson, and Hendricks counties. Local transportation officials advise allowing extra travel time and avoiding sudden stops or lane changes on slick roads.

Public schools in affected zones remain open, though delays are possible in rural districts. No widespread power outages or accidents have been reported as of 6 a.m., but emergency responders remain on alert.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 9 a.m. as temperatures rise and the fog dissipates. Another advisory may be issued Friday if similar patterns return.
