Indianapolis, Indiana – A second, more dangerous round of storms could hit central Indiana by late afternoon Tuesday, bringing damaging winds and large hail during the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, two rounds of storms are expected today. The first moved through northern Indiana this morning, while a second round is forecast to develop late afternoon into the evening, mainly near and north of the I-70 corridor, including Indianapolis, Lafayette, and Kokomo.

Wind gusts could reach 60 mph, with hail up to 1 inch in diameter possible in stronger storms. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out as storms intensify. Localized flooding may also develop where heavy rain falls repeatedly over the same areas.

Drivers along I-65, I-69, and I-70 should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, including reduced visibility and water-covered roads during peak travel hours. Power outages are possible if winds down trees and lines.

Residents should charge devices, secure outdoor items, and ensure alerts are enabled before storms redevelop later today. The severe threat will continue into the evening, with additional warnings likely as conditions evolve.
