Central Indiana – The National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK, has issued a statement indicating a slight risk of isolated severe storms in central Indiana today. The probability of a severe weather watch is low, but residents should remain vigilant for potential severe wind gusts and hail.
NWS reports that regional radar is showing several convective clusters moving southeast in conjunction with a cold front extending east-west across the region. Surface heating has led to increased instability, with MLCAPE values approaching 1500 J/kg, encouraging further storm development along the front.
Despite the presence of destabilization, the stronger effective bulk shear is positioned north of the front, reducing the likelihood of organized severe storms. However, strong low-level lapse rates near 8.5 C/km in central Indiana may contribute to a few strong storms capable of producing damaging winds and hail. Residents should monitor weather updates and stay prepared for sudden changes.
