Marion, IN – Indiana State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Thursday evening in Grant County. The incident left a Marion man injured and a deputy hospitalized.
Police say deputies responded to a residence on East County Road 450 North after reports of a threat to harm another person. Around 6:47 p.m., a man, later identified as Glenn A. Smock, 52, exited the home with a shotgun. Smock allegedly fired, striking one deputy.
Deputies returned fire, injuring Smock, who then retreated into the home. After briefly barricading himself, he surrendered without further incident.
Smock was treated at the scene and airlifted to a hospital for further care. The injured deputy was taken to a local hospital, treated, and later released.
According to authorities, the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave, standard protocol in such cases. The Grant County Prosecutor’s Office will review the findings once the investigation concludes.
This case remains under investigation by Indiana State Police.
