Valparaiso, IN — Six juveniles face criminal charges for their alleged involvement in spreading threats against Valparaiso schools. Authorities are investigating a series of incidents that caused panic in the community last week.
According to the Valparaiso Police Department, the investigation began on September 12, when officials received reports of a possible threat at Thomas Jefferson Middle School. The first report, allegedly made by a student, was found to have no credibility.
However, a second incident occurred later that day, prompting a partial lockdown as staff tried to secure students. Misinformation circulated, leading to further confusion. Additionally, a social media post containing a list of students to be harmed worsened the situation.
Valparaiso Police, working with the school district, arrested six juveniles connected to the threats and social media activity. The juveniles are being held at Porter County Juvenile Detention Center.
