Jasonville, IN – A fire that damaged a water filtration plant in Jasonville has left thousands of residents in western Indiana without access to clean water, prompting emergency response efforts from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) and the Indiana National Guard.
According to IDHS, the fire, which occurred Monday, disrupted water services in Jasonville, Coalmont, and Hymera. Utility providers estimate the outage could last several days to a week. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
To address the crisis, the City of Jasonville began distributing bottled water Monday morning, and IDHS delivered additional supplies later in the day. The National Guard is setting up a portable filtration system to produce potable water for affected communities.
Residents can access bottled and potable water at the following locations:
• 145 S. Lawton, Jasonville (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
• 6440 W. Public Road, Coalmont (9 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
• 406 N. Vine St., Hymera (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
Local businesses, grocery stores, and organizations such as the American Red Cross and Convoy of Hope are coordinating to deliver additional aid. Approximately 5,500 residents are impacted.
Water distribution efforts will continue until the plant is fully operational. Residents needing further assistance can contact Indiana 211 by dialing 2-1-1 or visiting in211.communityos.org.
