Paducah, KY – Boaters across western Kentucky and the tri-state region should brace for hazardous lake conditions Tuesday, as gusty south winds whip up waves through 7 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Lake Wind Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. CDT Tuesday, covering portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri. Sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts reaching 25 mph will make conditions dangerous for small watercraft.

The advisory includes lakes near towns like Murray, Benton, Cape Girardeau, Evansville, and Metropolis. The wind will not only churn up waters but also make highway driving difficult—especially for high-profile vehicles on open roadways such as I-24, I-69, and the Purchase Parkway.

Recreational boaters are urged to avoid area lakes or wear life vests and remain close to shore. Those towing trailers or driving large vans should grip the wheel tightly and reduce speed.

The Lake Wind Advisory will expire at 7 p.m., but breezy conditions may linger into the evening. Additional advisories are possible if gusts persist.
