Elkhart, IN – Two young cyclists were injured when a Jeep Grand Cherokee struck them on County Road 4 Tuesday morning. The crash occurred east of County Road 29 at approximately 7:50 a.m.

The driver, a 31-year-old woman from Elkhart, was traveling eastbound when her 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee collided with two boys, aged 7 and 13, who were riding their bikes in the same direction. Initial reports indicate that the sun’s glare may have impaired the driver’s visibility.

The 7-year-old boy sustained a severe head injury and was airlifted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. His injuries were reported to be life-threatening. The 13-year-old boy suffered an arm injury and was transported to Memorial Hospital in Elkhart. His condition is non-life-threatening.

The driver, who was wearing her seatbelt, was not injured and was not cited at the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and no charges have been filed at this time.
