Grant County, IN – A Michigan man wanted in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly leading law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit along Interstate 69 that ended in neighboring Delaware County.
According to the Indiana State Police, members of the Indiana State Excise Police located a vehicle at approximately 10 a.m. on Tuesday traveling southbound on Interstate 69 near the 262-mile marker in Grant County. Investigators said the vehicle had previously been reported stolen and linked to an investigation in Wyoming, Michigan.
Troopers from the Indiana State Police-Peru District and deputies with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office attempted a high-risk traffic stop, but authorities said the driver, identified as 43-year-old James W. Jackson of Wyoming, Michigan, allegedly fled, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph.
Police said Jackson continued southbound on I-69, at times driving through the median and along the shoulder to pass other vehicles. Multiple attempts to deploy tire deflation devices were unsuccessful, according to investigators.
The pursuit ended near the 236-mile marker when the vehicle left the roadway and entered a field near County Road 1000 West and 170 South in Delaware County. Indiana State Police Aviation later located the abandoned vehicle, and Jackson was found walking northbound on County Road 1000 West. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Jackson was booked into the Grant County Jail on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of stolen property, and criminal recklessness, all Level 6 felonies.
