Laurens County, SC – A Laurens County investigation into an alleged fatal drug distribution case has resulted in a federal arrest and multiple additional state charges after authorities said a suspect briefly fled from deputies.
According to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, deputies assisted the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in executing a federal arrest warrant for distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. Officials said the federal case stemmed from an investigation initiated by a Laurens County Sheriff’s Office investigator.
Authorities attempted to stop the suspect in the Gray Court area at approximately 8 a.m. Investigators said a brief vehicle pursuit followed before the suspect was taken into custody a short time later.
The sheriff’s office identified the suspect as Aberdeen Cornelius Craig of Gray Court.
In addition to the federal charge of distribution resulting in death, Craig is also charged with:
- Assault and Battery, High and Aggravated
- Failure to Stop for Blue Lights
- Reckless Driving
Investigators also executed a search warrant at Craig’s residence, where authorities said they seized approximately $18,000 and filed an additional charge of operating a gaming house.
Craig is being held in federal custody. The allegations against him have not been proven in court.
Sheriff Don Reynolds credited investigators and the DEA for their work on the case, saying the collaborative effort reflects the agency’s commitment to improving public safety throughout Laurens County.
