Starke County, Ind. – A hunter from Cedar Lake died on Saturday afternoon after falling from a tree stand in a tragic hunting accident. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. in the 3500 block of South 700 East near Knox.
Authorities responded to reports of a hunter falling from a tree stand and arrived to find Larry Sedwick, 53, deceased at the scene. Sedwick was deer hunting from an elevated stand when he fell. Officials confirmed that he was not wearing a full-body safety harness, which could have provided additional protection during his climb or while stationed in the stand.
According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), tree stand falls are one of the leading causes of hunting-related injuries and fatalities. The DNR encourages all hunters to use safety harnesses when hunting from elevated positions to prevent similar incidents.
The investigation into Sedwick’s fall is ongoing, as authorities seek to determine additional details regarding the accident. The tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of safety precautions in hunting activities.
