Pendleton, IN – A semi-truck collision with an overpass bridge closed all lanes of Interstate 69 near the 214-mile marker early Friday. Indiana State Police diverted traffic to alternate routes as crews assessed structural damage.
According to Indiana State Police, the incident involved a semi-truck striking the bridge’s support beams, prompting immediate lane closures. Engineers inspected the structure for safety concerns and reported no significant damage.
Traffic detours redirected vehicles off I-69 and back onto the highway beyond the crash site, leading to significant delays. Police urged drivers to use caution, follow posted detour signs, and allow extra travel time.
By 9:45 a.m., Indiana Department of Transportation engineers deemed the bridge safe, allowing the interstate to reopen shortly after. Photos from the scene showed the damaged semi-truck with a crushed cab beneath the bridge.
Motorists should remain cautious when traveling through the area as repairs to the damaged infrastructure may continue. Indiana State Police will provide further updates as necessary.
