Paducah, KY – Severe storms and oppressive heat are expected to impact Kentucky, Missouri, and southern Illinois today, potentially disrupting Fourth of July celebrations. The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a heat advisory and warns of thunderstorms throughout the region.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are currently moving through southeast Missouri and southern Illinois. These storms are expected to spread eastward by midday. The heat and humidity will create conditions favorable for additional storms in the afternoon, particularly around fireworks time. Any storms that form will bring heavy rainfall, potentially causing localized flooding.

The heat advisory remains in effect through this evening, with heat index values reaching between 105 and 110 degrees. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor activities. Gusty winds and the potential for damaging storms remain a concern.

Despite today’s severe weather, the forecast looks brighter for the weekend. Sunshine is expected to return, with temperatures moderating to the mid-80s by Saturday. This provides a hopeful outlook for those planning outdoor activities after the Fourth of July.
