Chicago, IL – Snowfall is impacting visibility across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, with conditions worsening through Wednesday afternoon. Drivers along I-55 and further north are experiencing 1-2 mile visibility, with pockets dropping to as low as 1/4 mile in areas of heavier snowfall.
According to weather reports, far northwest regions, including Ogle, Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, and parts of Lake County, are seeing the most significant visibility reductions. These conditions are expected to spread toward the I-55 corridor by early afternoon, making travel hazardous.
Snowfall intensity is also increasing east of I-55, including northwest Indiana. Areas along and south of U.S. Highway 24 that have not yet seen snow will likely experience snowfall within the next few hours.
Drivers should use caution, reduce speeds, and allow extra travel time as conditions worsen. Authorities advise checking road conditions before heading out and preparing for sudden visibility drops. Snowfall is expected to continue impacting travel through Wednesday evening.
