Chicago, IL – A flood watch is in effect along and southeast of the I-55 corridor from this afternoon through Wednesday morning due to the threat of heavy rainfall from the remnants of Beryl.
According to the National Weather Service, waves of heavy rain are expected later today through Wednesday morning, with rain rates potentially exceeding one inch per hour in the heaviest bands. These conditions could result in significant flooding, particularly in poor drainage areas, including roads, ditches, and fields. Significant rises in river levels may also occur.
Residents in affected areas are advised to avoid flooded roads and paths and to report flooding to local authorities. Strong northerly winds will result in a high swim risk at Lake Michigan beaches later tonight and on Wednesday.
The forecast indicates temperatures will slowly increase as the week progresses. Today’s high will range from 78-84°F, with rain developing from the north through the afternoon. On Wednesday, the heaviest rain is expected in the morning, with highs between 75-81°F. The high swim risk along Lake Michigan will continue.
Thursday will see a slight chance of thunderstorms, with temperatures ranging from 77-83°F. Friday and Saturday will be warmer, with highs reaching 81-90°F, and a continued 20% chance of thunderstorms.
