Chicago, IL – A key ramp closure on the outbound Kennedy Expressway has been delayed, though several other scheduled closures will proceed this week as part of an ongoing infrastructure overhaul in Chicago.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the planned shutdown of the outbound Kennedy Expressway (Interstate 90/94) ramp to Division Street, originally set for Tuesday, has been postponed until further notice. Other ramp closures, including those from Ogden Avenue and Armitage Avenue, remain on schedule.
The project, which spans the Kennedy corridor from the Edens Expressway (I-94) to Ohio Street, is part of a comprehensive effort to repair and patch pavement along key exit and entrance ramps. IDOT officials said that weather permitting, closures will begin Tuesday, with Armitage Avenue to outbound Kennedy closing Thursday.
Here is a breakdown of this week’s scheduled ramp closures:
- Tuesday, May 27: Ogden Avenue to outbound Kennedy
- Thursday, May 29: Armitage Avenue and outbound Kennedy to Ohio Street
Each closure is expected to last approximately two weeks, weather permitting. Future closures are planned through June, affecting ramps such as Ontario Street, Fullerton Avenue, and North Avenue.
Drivers are advised to heed posted detours, obey speed limits, and anticipate significant delays. IDOT recommends using public transit options like CTA’s Blue Line, Metra’s Union Pacific Northwest Line, and Pace buses to avoid congestion.
