Davenport, IA – Four tornadoes and a swath of damaging winds struck western Illinois and southeast Iowa Saturday night, with one EF1 tornado damaging multiple farmsteads near Atkinson.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, the EF1 tornado touched down at 8:58 p.m. CDT on April 20, tracking 7.3 miles through Henry County with peak winds of 95 mph. White pines were snapped and an outbuilding was destroyed on one farmstead. No injuries or deaths were reported.
Three EF0 tornadoes also occurred within minutes of each other. In Geneseo, a 5.9-mile path saw minor damage limited to tree branches. In Swan Creek, a garage was rolled off its foundation, while New Boston experienced 85 mph winds that uprooted trees and damaged a small outbuilding.
Across the Mississippi River in Iowa, straight-line winds between 80–90 mph ripped through West Burlington and Middletown. Officials confirmed a large storage building was destroyed and several utility poles were knocked down.
Residents are urged to remain weather-aware as spring storm systems remain active across the Midwest. Additional storm surveys may be completed as damage reports continue to come in.
