Illinois State Police Squad Car Struck While Assisting Motorist – 15th Scott’s Law-Related Crash of 2023

Granite City, Illinois – On Friday, an Illinois State Police (ISP) Trooper’s squad car was hit on Interstate 270 Eastbound near the Missouri border, Granite City. 

According to ISP reports, the Trooper was aiding a stalled motorist with lights flashing, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The Toyota Sequoia driver, Dwayne Samuel, 62, faced citations for Scott’s Law violations and no insurance. 

This marked the 15th Move Over Law-related crash in 2023. ISP stresses the importance of Scott’s Law, requiring drivers to slow down and change lanes when passing emergency vehicles. Violators face fines from $250 to $10,000 and possible license suspension.
