Illinois: Police Respond to Suicide in Front of Own Department

Crestwood, IL – A man died by suicide Monday outside the Crestwood Police Department, using a firearm. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, but despite their efforts, the individual succumbed to his injuries.

According to a statement from Crestwood Police, the incident occurred earlier in the day. The man reportedly shot himself in front of the police station, and Crestwood Police and Fire personnel immediately rendered aid.

He was rushed to Christ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities confirmed there were no prior interactions between the man and the Crestwood Police on Monday before the tragic event. Investigators have not released the identity of the individual involved or details about what may have led to the incident.

The police department expressed condolences but refrained from providing additional information as the investigation is ongoing. The public is urged to contact local mental health resources if they or anyone they know may be experiencing a crisis.
