WILMINGTON, IL – Michael Trinka, a 33-year-old resident of Wilmington, has been arrested and given a staggering $3 million bond after causing a fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 55.

Illinois State Police (ISP) announced Wednesday night Trinka has been charged with twelve counts of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, a Class 2 Felony, following the incident that claimed the lives of Ron and Kelly Dube. The couple’s three children, who were also in the vehicle, sustained injuries and were also hospitalized following the crash.

According to ISP Investigators, collision occurred on June 27, 2023, when Trinka, driving a black Ford F-150, was traveling in the wrong direction on the southbound lanes of Interstate 55. His vehicle collided head-on with a GMC Yukon before being struck by a truck tractor semi-trailer. Ron and Kelly Dube were pronounced dead at the scene, while their children were transported to a nearby hospital.

After a thorough investigation by the Illinois State Police Zone 1 Violent Crime Unit, Trinka was arrested Wednesday.  His bond was set at an astonishing $3 million, requiring a payment of 10 percent for release. Trinka is currently held at the Will County Jail, with no further details on the case disclosed.

The community has since rallied together to support the surviving children, with a GoFundMe campaign raising over $130,000 to date.
