LaSalle County, IL – A man is in critical condition after falling nearly 100 feet at Starved Rock State Park over the holiday weekend. The accident occurred Saturday around 2:25 p.m. at Hennepin Canyon Overlook.
According to the Utica Fire Protection District, the man, estimated to be in his mid-30s, fell between 80 and 100 feet from the overlook. Rescue teams used a high-angle rope system to reach him in the difficult terrain.
Ottawa River Rescue then transported the man by boat to the Starved Rock Lock and Dam, where he was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital in Peoria.
Authorities confirmed he remains in critical condition and have not released his identity. Officials are reminding visitors to stay cautious, especially during busy holiday weekends.
