Geneva, IL – The Chicago Steel announced Tuesday that the 2025-2026 season will be the team’s final year at Fox Valley Ice Arena before relocating to a new state-of-the-art facility in downtown Chicago.
The organization will move operations to the soon-to-be-expanded Fifth Third Arena, the official training center of the Chicago Blackhawks, starting in 2026. The announcement marks the end of a decade-long run in Geneva that saw the Steel develop dozens of NHL-caliber players and establish itself as one of the premier junior hockey programs in the country.
According to the Steel’s front office, the new Championship Arena will be part of a 135,000-square-foot expansion, offering upgraded amenities for both fans and players. The facility will include stadium-style seating, advanced lighting and audio systems, expanded dining options, and a center-hung video board.
“This move gives our players access to elite-level training under the same roof as NHL athletes,” said Dan Lehv, president of the Chicago Steel. “It also brings our fans an even better game-day experience.”
The Steel have sent 191 players to NCAA Division I hockey, produced 42 NHL draft picks, and seen 29 alumni reach the NHL during their time in Geneva. Lehv acknowledged the critical support of local partners, including the Forest Preserve District of Kane County and Centrum East-West Ventures.
While the team expressed gratitude for its time in Geneva, officials stated that operating long-term in a community rink that it does not own was no longer viable.
“We understand this move may be difficult for some of our most dedicated supporters,” said Lehv, “but it’s a necessary step for the continued growth of our organization.”
The Steel’s final season at Fox Valley Ice Arena begins this fall.
