Monee, IL – A firefighter/EMT from the Monee Fire Protection District was injured when a semi-truck collided with an ambulance on I-57, causing a chain reaction crash into a fire engine.
According to a press release from Monee FPD, the incident occurred as emergency responders arrived at the scene of a motor vehicle accident. The semi-truck struck the ambulance, pushing it into the fire engine, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles. The firefighter/EMT sustained a minor head injury and was transported for medical treatment.
Mutual aid was quickly requested, and the Manhattan Fire Protection District, Frankfort Fire Protection District, and Richton Park Fire Department responded to assist Monee FPD. These departments ensured that emergency services continued to be provided while Monee FPD handled the incident.
The collision on I-57 caused traffic delays as crews worked to clear the scene and conduct an investigation.
