Carol Stream, IL – A Carol Stream man with a felony record, Alvin Thompson, Jr., 43, is being held on a $2 million bond following a harrowing high-speed chase that left a woman hospitalized. Thompson allegedly led the police on a reckless pursuit while under the influence of alcohol.

According to police reports it happened Sunday night around 7:28 p.m. when Carol Stream officers responded to reports of a man brandishing a gun. The suspect, identified as Thompson, fled the scene in a Mercedes C300. An officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Thompson accelerated, leading to a dangerous chase.

During the pursuit, Thompson’s speed exceeded 75 mph as he drove through a parking lot and ignored a red light. Tragically, he collided with another vehicle occupied by a man and a woman, resulting in severe injuries to the woman.

Authorities apprehended Thompson after he attempted to flee on foot. Upon investigation, officers found a loaded handgun on the dash near the driver’s side, and they detected a strong alcohol odor on Thompson’s breath, suggesting he was intoxicated.

Thompson now faces several charges, including Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, as well as various misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses, including Resisting Arrest.
