Springfield, IL – Illinois is electrifying its roadways with a significant boost in funding for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has unveiled a new $50 million grant program aimed at expanding the state’s network of EV charging stations.

According to IDOT’s latest press release, the funding is a strategic move to support the burgeoning demand for EVs, targeting the construction of 46 new charging stations along key travel corridors. This initiative is a cornerstone of Illinois’ National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program and aligns with Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s vision for a clean energy future. “Ongoing EV adoption is a priority for my administration,” Pritzker stated. “Thanks to the NEVI’s historic investment in clean energy infrastructure, we’re able to build an integrated network of charging stations in Illinois’ key travel corridors that will lead to new ridership.” Transportation Secretary Omer Osman underscored the opportunity for local entities to develop EV infrastructure, which is set to catalyze job creation and economic growth while promoting green transport solutions.

IDOT is currently accepting applications, with a deadline of May 7 at 5 p.m. Interested applicants can find more details and apply via the IDOT’s drive electric website.
