Toulon, IL – Illinois State Police (ISP) announced Monday that 911 service is now available across all 102 counties in the state. This milestone is a significant achievement for ISP’s Division of Statewide 911, ensuring every resident can access emergency services.
ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly, alongside officials from Stark County and Peoria-Stark Joint Emergency Telephone System Board, marked this accomplishment. According to Kelly, the agreement between Stark and Peoria counties ensures faster response times, providing critical assistance for residents and travelers alike.
Stark County previously relied on a 10-digit number for emergency services. People unfamiliar with the area struggled to find help, delaying responses. The new 911 service allows emergency dispatchers to send first responders more efficiently.
In 2015, the Illinois General Assembly tasked ISP with the mission of bringing enhanced 911 services to underserved areas. Illinois Statewide 911 Administrator Cindy Barbera-Brelle noted that the state continues to migrate 911 systems to the Next Generation 911 network. This network will improve service quality and provide faster response times for emergencies.
Since 2016, the state has awarded $47.5 million in grants to support 911 system improvements across Illinois. This accomplishment highlights the state’s ongoing commitment to improving emergency services for all residents.
