Orland Park, IL – The Village of Orland Park was honored today for its environmental leadership, earning its 37th consecutive Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation.
According to a press release from the Village, Orland Park recently concluded a comprehensive 2024 Parkway, Park and Facility Tree Assessment. Crews from Great Lakes Urban Forestry Management (GLUFM) inventoried all public trees in the community’s parkways and park facilities, identifying a total of 36,134 trees.
The Village Board also marked Earth Day on April 22 and Arbor Day on April 25 by encouraging residents to support tree preservation and urban forestry. Officials highlighted the role of trees in improving community aesthetics and environmental health.
The Tree City USA program, coordinated by the Arbor Day Foundation, recognizes municipalities across the country that demonstrate a commitment to sustainable urban forestry. This year, over 3,587 cities have joined the program, with more than $2 billion invested in trees nationwide, according to the Foundation.
The Arbor Day Foundation, established in 1972, has helped plant more than 500 million trees in more than 60 countries. It partners with local governments, schools and community groups to promote environmental stewardship and urban greenery.
