Chicago, IL – Illinois residents are facing a significant heat wave this week, with temperatures expected to peak Monday and Tuesday. The National Weather Service forecasts that the heat index will reach between 110 and 115 degrees on Tuesday, making it one of the hottest days of the summer.
According to the National Weather Service, Monday’s heat index is expected to be slightly lower, ranging from 95 to 105 degrees. This extreme heat has prompted excessive heat warnings across much of the state, urging residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe.
Relief from the intense heat is expected to begin on Wednesday. Cooler air will gradually move into the region, bringing temperatures down to a high range of 85 to 94 degrees. This cooling trend will continue through the end of the week, with highs in the low to mid-80s by Thursday and Friday.
While the heat wave is expected to ease midweek, the forecast also includes chances of showers and thunderstorms, particularly along Lake Michigan on Wednesday. By Friday, rain chances will rise to 20-30%, with temperatures settling between 82 and 87 degrees.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and monitor weather updates as conditions develop throughout the week.
