McHenry County, IL – Illinois Conservation Police are renewing their request for public assistance in a fatal Fox River boating crash investigation after upgraded charges were filed in connection with the July 25 incident.
According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, investigators are trying to identify a boat, its owner and its occupants after the vessel appeared in video recorded around 11 a.m. July 25, shortly before the fatal crash.
Authorities emphasized that the unidentified boat and its occupants are not believed to have been involved in the fatal collision and are not suspected of wrongdoing.
Instead, investigators believe the occupants may have witnessed activity or have information that could help authorities determine what happened before the crash.
The renewed appeal comes after upgraded charges were filed in connection with the case. The department’s latest statement did not provide details about those charges or identify the person facing them.
Investigators have released video showing the boat they are seeking to identify and are asking anyone who recognizes the vessel, its owner or its occupants to come forward.
People with information can submit tips through the Illinois Conservation Police online tip portal.
