Florence, SC – Two men have been arrested following a weekend shooting that killed a 47-year-old woman at a Florence residence, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. Sunday to a reported shooting with a victim on Vince Circle. Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken identified the woman who died as 47-year-old Takisha Johnson.

Investigators allege that 23-year-old Kigical Montrell Atkins and 19-year-old Tristen Antwan Mack became involved in a verbal altercation before Atkins allegedly retrieved a shotgun with the intent of shooting Mack.

Authorities further allege that Johnson attempted to prevent Atkins from leaving the residence with the shotgun when the weapon discharged, killing her.

Atkins, of Effingham, was arrested Sunday and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to the sheriff’s office.

Mack, of Florence, was also arrested Sunday and charged with first-degree assault and battery.

Authorities did not provide additional details about what allegedly led to the initial confrontation or explain the circumstances surrounding Mack’s assault charge in the release.

Both men were being held at the Florence County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings, according to the sheriff’s office.

The arrests stem from an ongoing investigation, and the charges are allegations. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
