Chicago, IL – A sharp Arctic blast is expected to grip the Chicago area starting Wednesday afternoon, bringing sub-zero wind chills, snow showers, and icy road conditions. Residents should prepare for plummeting temperatures and dangerous wind chills as low as -20°F late Wednesday into Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, the week will begin with highs in the 30s, but temperatures will drop rapidly midweek. Winds gusting up to 40 mph will make outdoor conditions hazardous, especially Wednesday night when single-digit lows and bitterly cold wind chills are forecasted.

Scattered snow showers are expected Wednesday afternoon, with roadways such as Lake Shore Drive and I-90 potentially becoming slick and dangerous during the evening commute. Motorists are urged to use caution, as visibility may decrease during snow bursts. By Thursday, highs will remain in the teens, with wind chills keeping the region feeling significantly colder.

Residents are advised to dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure, and secure outdoor decorations or items that could blow away in strong winds. Precautions should also be taken to protect pets and vulnerable individuals from the extreme cold.

The frigid conditions will ease slightly by the weekend, with temperatures rising into the 30s and a chance of rain and snow by Friday night. However, Thursday morning poses the most significant risk for frostbite due to prolonged exposure to wind chills between -10°F and -20°F.
