Boston, MA – High winds and heavy rain are set to lash Massachusetts today through Wednesday night, creating hazardous travel and potential power outages. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch and Flood Watch for eastern parts of the state, including Boston, Worcester, and the I-95 corridor. Wind gusts could reach 60 mph, while rainfall totals are expected to range from 2 to 4 inches in many areas.

According to the National Weather Service, the greatest impacts will be felt late Wednesday into early Thursday, with damaging winds capable of toppling trees and power lines. Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel, as black ice is possible this morning, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Motorists commuting through areas like Route 128 and I-93 are advised to exercise caution.

Heavy rainfall could trigger localized flooding, particularly in low-lying urban areas. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency urges residents to secure outdoor furniture, clear storm drains, and avoid driving through flooded roadways.

Looking ahead, Wednesday’s temperatures will peak near 62°F before plummeting to the mid-30s overnight, bringing strong winds and a chance of thunderstorms. Thursday should bring clearing skies, with highs near 42°F, followed by a sunny and colder Friday with highs in the mid-30s.

While conditions should improve by the weekend, forecasters warn that additional rain could return early next week. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates and prepare for fluctuating conditions.
