Chicago, IL – A winter weather advisory has been issued for portions of Illinois and northwest Indiana, with freezing rain and ice accumulation expected from Wednesday afternoon through early Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory is in effect from noon CST Wednesday until 6 AM CST Thursday. Areas impacted include Chicago, Joliet, Kankakee, and portions of northwest Indiana, including Gary and Valparaiso. Snow and sleet accumulation could reach one inch, with ice buildup ranging from one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch.
Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate, particularly on bridges and overpasses, which may become slick and hazardous. The Wednesday evening commute could be especially difficult due to icy roadways.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution and allow extra time for travel. Road condition updates for Illinois can be found at www.gettingaroundillinois.com, while Indiana travelers can check 511in.org.
Residents should prepare for potential power outages due to ice accumulation and stay updated on local forecasts.
