Palos Park, IL — Palos Park Police have issued a warning about a new sextortion scam targeting local residents. The scam involves emails where hackers claim they have compromised the victim’s computer and recorded explicit videos using their webcam. Hackers then demand Bitcoin payment, threatening to send the alleged video to the victim’s contacts.

According to the Palos Park Police Department (PPPD), scammers are now adding a new twist by including a Google Maps image of the victim’s home. The photo, attached to the email, is meant to increase fear and pressure victims into complying with the extortion demands.

Authorities emphasize that this is a scam, urging residents not to send any money or provide personal information to scammers. The police advise residents to avoid opening attachments from unknown sources and to cover their webcams when not in use.

Residents are also reminded to never share compromising images with anyone, regardless of their claims. The PPPD continues to investigate these scams and warns the public to stay vigilant against evolving threats.
