JOLIET, IL – Three local airports are set to undergo major upgrades as the state of Illinois initiates its largest construction program in history. With a budget of nearly $41 billion, the multi-year initiative aims to revamp infrastructure across the state.
Lewis University Airport will receive approximately $5 million for pavement repairs, rehabbing the taxiway and runway, as well as improvements to the terminal area. Clow Airport will receive around $3.5 million for an overlay on the existing runway, installation of a precision approach indicator, and reimbursement for a runway protection zone. Joliet Regional Airport will get approximately $3.2 million for runway safety improvements, airfield marking, maintenance, and erecting a fence to reduce wildlife access.
The funding will enable these airports to modernize facilities, ensuring safer and more efficient travel. Lewis University Airport will address crucial pavement repairs and enhance the taxiway, runway, and terminal area. Clow Airport will see an overlay on the runway, a precision approach indicator, and a runway protection zone reimbursement. Joliet Regional Airport will experience significant improvements in runway safety, airfield marking, maintenance, and a fence to deter wildlife.
The same program also allocates $14 billion for various transit, rail, aviation, ports, and waterways across the state.
