Boise, Idaho – Rising temperatures across Idaho will bring dangerously hot afternoons to the Boise area starting Thursday and continuing through Sunday, with highs climbing to 98°F. Outdoor plans and travel along I-84 could become hazardous due to heat exhaustion risk and increasing wildfire concerns.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, Thursday will mark the beginning of a four-day stretch of intense summer heat, beginning with a high near 85°F and light northwest winds. Friday will jump to 88°F, with Saturday reaching 94°F and Sunday peaking at 98°F under clear skies. Residents should prepare now by hydrating, limiting mid-afternoon activity, and checking on vulnerable neighbors or pets.
Sunshine and light winds will dominate, but the dry conditions will increase fire weather threats across Ada and Canyon Counties. Drivers along I-84 should stay alert for potential roadside flare-ups, especially near dry grasslands west of Boise. No cooling rain is in sight, and overnight lows will stay in the mid-60s—offering little relief.
Power grids may also see added strain by Sunday as air conditioners run nonstop. Officials recommend reducing energy use during peak hours and ensuring emergency kits are ready.
Hot weather is expected to persist into early next week.
