Hurricane Rafael Makes Landfall in Cuba, South Florida Watches Closely

Miami, FL – Hurricane Rafael struck Cuba’s Artemisa Province on Wednesday with powerful winds, prompting South Florida to remain alert. Rafael made landfall east of Playa Majana around 4:15 p.m. Eastern with sustained winds of 115 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm brought significant pressure, measured at 956 mb, and is moving northwest at 14 mph. At the time of impact, Rafael was located about 40 miles southwest of Havana and 30 miles southeast of Bahia Honda.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service have not issued any major changes for South Florida, but they continue to monitor Rafael’s path closely. While the storm’s primary impact remains in Cuba, officials urge residents in Florida to stay updated as the hurricane’s trajectory unfolds.
