Human Remains Found After Michigan Garage ‘Blown Up’ in Explosion

Lambertville, MI – A fatal structure fire in Bedford Township, Monroe County, is under investigation after authorities discovered human remains inside a vehicle following an explosion. The fire occurred Monday morning in the 7900 block of Case Drive, where deputies responded to reports of a building that had “blown up.”

According to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough, 911 dispatch received multiple calls around 9:15 a.m. about an explosion in the area of Case Drive and Linwood Drive. Monroe County Deputies Brian Rachuba and Blake Merrill arrived to find a detached garage engulfed in flames with damage consistent with an explosion. The deputies quickly warned nearby residents of the danger.

The Bedford Township and Whiteford Township Fire Departments extinguished the blaze, leading to the discovery of human remains in a vehicle parked inside the garage. The Monroe County Fire Investigation Team and Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau are currently handling the investigation.

The remains have been sent to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
