Houston, TX – Drivers across southeast Texas should be prepared for wet roads and the potential for localized street flooding as showers and thunderstorms continue to increase in coverage through Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms will continue developing through the Tuesday morning commute before persisting through Wednesday. Some of the strongest storms will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall, especially in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.

Forecasters have placed much of southeast Texas under a Level 2 of 4 (Slight Risk) for excessive rainfall on both Tuesday and Wednesday, indicating the potential for scattered flash flooding where storms repeatedly move over the same locations.

Communities including Houston, Galveston, Sugar Land, Conroe, Baytown, Pasadena, Beaumont, Lake Jackson, and surrounding areas could experience periods of torrential rain, gusty winds, frequent lightning, and rapidly changing travel conditions.

The greatest concern is for street flooding, particularly during heavier downpours. Water can quickly accumulate on roadways, making travel hazardous during the morning and evening commutes. Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded streets and remember the safety message: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

The unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue into Wednesday, with additional rounds of thunderstorms capable of producing localized flooding before conditions gradually improve later in the week.

The National Weather Service encourages residents to remain weather-aware, monitor updated forecasts, and have multiple ways to receive warnings if Flash Flood Warnings are issued.
