Houston, Texas – Heat will intensify across southeast Texas starting Sunday, with rising temperatures and humidity pushing heat index values near 100 degrees by midday and increasing health risks for outdoor activity.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, an early season heat event will build late this weekend and persist through at least Wednesday. High temperatures will climb from the upper 80s Saturday into a range of 87 to 94 degrees Sunday through midweek, while overnight lows remain elevated between 69 and 75 degrees, limiting nighttime cooling.

Houston, Sugar Land, Conroe, and Galveston will all experience hot, humid afternoons, especially along major corridors like I-10, I-45, and U.S. 59 where outdoor work and travel exposure is highest. Heat risk is classified as moderate, meaning those without effective cooling or hydration could experience heat-related illness. Isolated thunderstorms may develop Saturday afternoon and evening, but widespread relief is not expected.

Residents should reduce time outdoors between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., drink water frequently, and wear light-colored clothing. Check on vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and pets, and never leave anyone in a parked vehicle.

This heat pattern is expected to hold through Wednesday, with additional updates likely if temperatures trend higher or heat advisories are issued.
