Flagstaff, Arizona – Strong winds will ramp up quickly early Sunday morning, with gusts up to 55 mph expected to impact travel and visibility across northern Arizona through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. MST Sunday, expanding to 6 a.m. through 9 p.m. across Navajo Nation. Southwest winds will increase to 15 to 30 mph, with widespread gusts between 35 and 55 mph from the Mogollon Rim northward, including Flagstaff, Winslow, and Show Low.

Major routes such as I-40, I-17, and U.S. 89 could see hazardous crosswinds, especially for high-profile vehicles. Blowing dust may reduce visibility in open areas, while loose objects, tree limbs, and isolated power lines could be impacted during peak gusts in the afternoon.

Residents should secure outdoor items, avoid parking near trees, and use caution while driving, particularly in exposed areas and higher elevations. Truck drivers and RVs should be prepared for sudden gusts that can push vehicles off course.

Winds are expected to gradually weaken after sunset Sunday, but additional advisories may be issued if conditions persist or intensify across northern Arizona.
