House Springs, Mo. – A man faces multiple felony charges after an alleged shooting prompted a SWAT standoff at a House Springs home.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, 44-year-old Ronald L. Lalk of House Springs is charged with first-degree assault (attempted murder), armed criminal action, second-degree kidnapping, and unlawful use of a weapon.
Investigators say Lalk allegedly shot a woman during the early morning hours of Thursday, March 12, inside a residence in the 4000 block of Crest Drive in House Springs.
Authorities said the victim was transported to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
During the investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for the home. When deputies attempted to serve the warrant, officials said Lalk allegedly barricaded himself inside the residence, leading authorities to believe he remained armed.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office activated SWAT officers and crisis negotiators, who spent several hours attempting to resolve the situation safely.
According to the sheriff’s office, negotiators ultimately convinced Lalk to exit the home peacefully. He was taken into custody without injury to himself, officers, or others.
Authorities said the resolution marked the safest possible outcome given the circumstances.
Lalk is currently being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail.
The sheriff’s office also credited the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, led by Prosecutor Trisha Stefanski, for quickly securing in-custody warrants following the investigation.
The Crest Drive incident temporarily drew a large law enforcement presence in the neighborhood, an area traveled by commuters and families in the House Springs community.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
