High School Lockdown: Lake County, Kenosha Sheriffs Respond to Armed Suspect Near Wisconsin-Illinois Border

Salem Lakes, WI – Wilmot Union High School was placed in a secure hold Tuesday afternoon following a request from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities sought an armed suicidal man near the Wisconsin-Illinois state line, close to the school. The suspect was reported to be near the Fox River Road area, just outside Wilmot Union High School, prompting safety measures.

According to Kenosha County Sheriff David Zoerner, the school entered the secure hold around 12:06 p.m. and remained locked down for approximately 45 minutes. Students were never in immediate danger. The lockdown was lifted once authorities confirmed the suspect had not crossed into Wisconsin.

Wilmot Union High School resumed its normal activities by 1:20 p.m. The suspect was located in Illinois. Sheriff Zoerner emphasized the importance of student safety and encouraged vigilance from the community, urging everyone to report suspicious activity immediately.
