Jackson, MS – The National Weather Service in Jackson, Mississippi, has issued a high riptide risk for Gulf Coast beaches from tonight through Wednesday night. The alert affects popular beach destinations, including Dauphin Island, Fort Morgan, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Pensacola Beach, Navarre Beach, and Fort Walton Beach.

Swimmers and beachgoers are urged to exercise extreme caution as riptides can be life-threatening. The NWS advises against swimming in the open ocean during this period. If caught in a riptide, individuals should remain calm, avoid fighting the current, and swim parallel to the shore to escape.

In addition to the riptide warning, rain chances are expected to increase this afternoon, particularly in areas east of I-55. High temperatures are forecasted to reach the mid-90s, with areas such as Jackson, Hattiesburg, and Meridian experiencing intense heat.

According to the NWS, these conditions are typical for the region during this time of year. However, beachgoers should heed local warnings and stay informed of changing weather patterns. The combination of high temperatures and potential storms heightens the risk for those near the water.

Local authorities recommend paying close attention to weather updates and avoiding unnecessary travel to the affected beaches.
