Morton County, ND – A 43-year-old Dickinson man was fatally shot early Tuesday after a high-speed chase involving North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers and Morton County deputies. The incident began at approximately 12:45 a.m. when a trooper attempted a traffic stop on University Drive in Bismarck. The driver fled west on the Bismarck Expressway, prompting a pursuit.

A second trooper and Morton County deputies joined the chase. The pursuit ended on I-94 near New Salem after officers deployed spike strips, deflating the suspect’s tires. According to authorities, the suspect fired at officers after the vehicle was disabled. In response, two troopers and a deputy fired their weapons, fatally striking the man. A female passenger was in the vehicle but was unharmed.

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is examining the incident. The involved troopers are on administrative leave pending the investigation, a standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting. The Morton County State’s Attorney will review the case.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol emphasized their commitment to thorough training for high-risk situations and expressed condolences for the loss of life. Further updates will be provided through official channels.
