Columbus, GA – Severe thunderstorms delivered heavy rainfall across west-central Georgia on Friday, breaking records in Columbus. The city saw 3.22 inches of rain in 24 hours, marking the 7th wettest September day since 1892.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City, the most intense storms impacted areas near and just southeast of Columbus. Radar estimates show that nearby regions, including Buena Vista, received between 4 to 8 inches of rain. The NWS noted that Friday’s storm set a new daily rainfall record for Columbus.
Residents of Columbus and surrounding areas experienced localized flooding. The NWS urged individuals to report any flood damage to assist with official records. Although rain chances continue through Monday, clearer skies are expected by mid-week, with temperatures rising into the 80s.
The stormy conditions highlight the unpredictability of Georgia’s weather during September. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on further weather developments as more rain could impact already saturated areas.
