Honolulu, HI – A powerful windstorm is set to impact multiple Hawaiian islands, with damaging gusts expected to last through Friday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for portions of Oahu, Kauai, Niihau, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and the Big Island, warning of gusts over 60 mph, with the Big Island summits facing up to 75 mph winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, winds will intensify starting Wednesday evening for Kauai and Oahu, and Thursday morning for Maui, Molokai, and Lanai, lasting through 6 AM HST Friday. The strongest gusts are expected in exposed areas and mountain summits, posing risks to power lines, trees, and lightweight structures.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare for potential power outages. High-profile vehicles may experience hazardous driving conditions, and summit travel is strongly discouraged due to extreme wind speeds.

Authorities advise monitoring local updates and exercising caution until winds subside.
