Hastings, Nebraska – Strong storms could develop across central Nebraska by Wednesday afternoon, bringing large hail and damaging wind gusts to communities from Grand Island to Kearney.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a pleasant Tuesday with highs in the upper 70s will give way to a more active weather pattern overnight. Upper-level disturbances moving across the Plains will increase storm chances through the end of the week. Winds will shift from the east at 10 to 15 mph, fueling storm development by mid-morning Wednesday and again into the evening.

Cities including Hastings, York, and Holdrege may see severe storms capable of producing 60 mph winds and hail larger than one inch. Rain and storm chances persist through Friday, with daytime highs dipping into the 60s. Wednesday appears to be the most volatile day, with multiple rounds of storms possible.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, avoid travel during active storms, and monitor alerts from local emergency management. Power outages and downed limbs could occur if winds intensify.

Storm and rain chances remain in the forecast through Saturday, with temperatures hovering in the 60s and lows in the 40s. More alerts may be issued as the week progresses.
